Approach to Le Capanne with open views across the Tuscan hills

Getting there

Travel & stay

Our wedding weekend will take place at Country Relais Le Capanne, set in the beautiful Tuscan countryside just outside Volterra. Volterra itself is around a 15‑minute drive from the venue, where you’ll find a variety of hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants.

Please note that personal transportation or taxis will be required throughout the weekend, as the venue and surrounding accommodation are spread across the countryside and there is limited public transport. We recommend arranging a rental car or planning taxis in advance to make getting around as easy as possible.

We will also be looking into taxis and group shuttles on the day of the wedding so guests can fully relax and enjoy themselves!

Keep coming back to this website for updates — we’ll add more details as plans are confirmed.

Where to stay

Our suggestions

June is a popular time to visit Tuscany, so we recommend booking accommodation as early as possible.

Our top pick

Agriturismo Casale Giulia

10 min by car from the venue

This is our favourite option for the weekend. A peaceful countryside agriturismo offering apartments surrounded by gardens and open fields, with plenty of space and a short drive to the celebrations.

  • Free cancellation before June 2027 — book with flexibility.
  • Wedding shuttles included — we will arrange shuttles between Casale Giulia and the venue throughout the weekend, so you can relax without driving.
  • Traditional Tuscan farmhouse apartments in a quiet rural setting.
  • Outdoor gardens, countryside views, and a relaxed base for groups or families.

A hire car is still helpful for exploring, but our shuttles will take care of getting you to and from the wedding events.

Borgo della Speranza

6 min by car from the venue

Located just 6 minutes by car from the venue, Borgo della Speranza is a lovely nearby option for guests who would like to stay close to the celebrations. The property offers both hotel‑style rooms and private apartments, making it a great choice for couples, families, or groups of friends.

While the accommodation does not have its own swimming pool, guests staying here are welcome to use the pool at our venue throughout the weekend (subject to certain hours on the big day!).

Our favourite in Volterra

Hotel San Lino

15 min by car from the venue

This is our top recommendation if you want to stay inside Volterra itself. It’s a well‑located option within the historic walls, with the town’s restaurants, shops and evening atmosphere right on your doorstep.

  • Request a pool-facing room only. The pool courtyard is quieter and far more pleasant — we strongly recommend avoiding the roadside rooms.
  • Inside Volterra’s historic walls, close to restaurants and the town centre.
  • About 15 minutes by car from the venue.

Hotel Sant'Antonio

13 min by car from the venue

A more rural option in the Volterra countryside, surrounded by rolling hills and open space.

Airbnb & holiday rentals

June is a popular time to visit Tuscany, so we recommend booking accommodation as early as possible! There are many Airbnb and holiday rental options in and around Volterra, from countryside villas to apartments in the historic town. This can be a great option for groups or families travelling together.

Volterra is approximately 15 minutes from the venue, and a car or taxis will be required to travel to and from the celebrations.

Getting around

  • Casale Giulia shuttles. If you book at our top pick above, we will arrange shuttles to and from the venue throughout the weekend — no driving required for the wedding events.
  • Rent a car. Genuinely the easiest way to explore the wider western Tuscan countryside.
  • Wedding shuttle. Round trips from Volterra hotels on the 20th, last ride at 02:00. (will be organised depending on where guests end up booking. TBC closer to the time.)
  • Volterra town. Around 15 minutes by car from the venue — perfect for groceries, dinner out, or an evening stroll.

If you stay on

Western Tuscany is packed with things to do, so if you can extend your trip, we highly recommend it. Three extra nights is the right amount; five is even better.

  • Volterra. Explore the Etruscan Museum, the Roman theatre, and the alabaster workshops that have made this hilltop town famous for centuries. Piazza dei Priori and the medieval walls are perfect for a slow morning wander.
  • Vineyards & wine. Drive the cypress-lined road to Bolgheri for Super Tuscan tastings, or visit smaller family-run wineries in the Pisa hills around Terricciola and Monteverdi Marittimo.
  • Olive oil experiences. Local farms and agriturismi offer olive oil tastings, grove tours, and harvest experiences. Look for fresh-pressed oil tastings at Diacceroni, Podere Cavozzoli, or nearby estates.
  • Pisa. The Leaning Tower and the Piazza dei Miracoli are an easy day trip — about an hour away.
  • San Gimignano. The “Manhattan of Tuscany” with medieval towers, Vernaccia wine, and gelato — around 40 minutes by car.
  • Coastal drives. Take the scenic route to the Etruscan Coast for a beach day at Castiglioncello or Cecina, or explore the ancient ruins and turquoise bay at Baratti and Populonia.
